Parenting Tips and more

When I was born my mother gave me an unusual name and I am very thankful she did. She wanted to make sure that my name was unique and most of all she wanted it to be pretty. I don’t know what her intent was in naming me. I don’t know if she named me what she in hopes of guiding me into a profession or if she thought it would make me stand out, I simply do not know. I am only certain that she wanted me to have an unusual name and she succeeded at that, as I did and of course still do, have an unusual name.

I believe that a name defines who you are, and that the meaning of names is very significant. My unique name brought attention to me that others will never enjoy, it also brought me a great deal of patience. I still get asked daily (and I am 32 years old) what my name means and how I came about being named what I was. My story is boring, it came from a book of unusual names, but what isn’t boring is the meanings my first and middle name have, and what they say. The literal meaning of my first and middle name combined is Beautiful Sunrise. I am a morning person, I enjoy beauty in everything that I can, I love the sun, the earth, the water; name meanings, in my opinion are just as important as the names themselves.

Scouring through page after page of baby names gets old. I know, because my first born sons name was initially constructed from one of those books. I spent countless hours looking at names, cross referencing and writing them down, writing the meanings down and figuring out if they looked and sounded good. Naming a baby is more than just giving your bundle a cute name when they’re little. Naming a person is a huge responsibility, and I am happy that when the next time comes, I will have a handy place like parentsconnect.com to help me out.
