The Common Running Injuries
The most frequent injuries occur during running or walking are near the foot and ankle area. These occur when some vigorous activity is done where there is involvement of foot region.
Injuries include such as stress fracture, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, runner’s knee, housemaid’s knee, shin splints etc.
In stress fracture there is cracking of bone into small fragments due to sudden pressure or falling from height. The treatment recommended is having proper rest. In plantar fasciitis there is inflammation of plantar fascia. When the patient wakes up in the morning he feels huge pain over that region.
Tendonitis is when the tendon gets inflamed and Achilles tendon is very common to be inflamed (Achilles tendonitis) and to treat Achilles tendonitis rest with some physical therapy is required.
Runner’s knee is pain over the knee cap area and the major injury occur over it patellar tendonitis and chondromalacia patellae. The problem is mainly present in those who live in hills and mountains.
Housemaid’s knee refers to the inflammation of the bursa over the knee joint (mainly sub patellar bursa)
Shin splints refer to pain in the shin area due to some trauma or post fracture tibia fracture. There is swelling and pain over the shin area. These kinds of injuries are very frequent in football players.
