Heroin – History
Heroin was developed by C.R Alder Wright in 1874. At that time a chemist who was working at St. Mary’s Hospital in England started doing experiments by mixing morphine with various other acids. The chemist boiled the morphine with some concentrated acetic acid for few hours and then got a strong form of morphine Known as diacetylmorphine.
The compound was tested on various animals like rabbits, dogs and the results were fear, eyes became sensitive, sleepiness, vomiting and some of the heart problems came into existence. After 23 years it was re-synthesized by a chemist named Felix Hoffman who was working in pharmaceutical company in Germany.
The aim of the chemist was to prepare codeine from opium poppy, But the experiment produced a class of morphine which was named as ‘Heroin’ from 1890 to 1920 it was sold as a cough medicine for the people and was considered as a more active form of morphine the company became self-conscious with this development. In first world war, all the rights were lost by the company and in 1924 congress of U.S banned the sale of heroin.
Many persons started taking Heroine as a medicine but in the liver it was converted morphine which led to fatal problems, insomnia, vomiting, diarrhea, cold flashes and many other symptoms due to which the persons were sent the to Heroin rehab center for proper medical treatment by various other medication techniques that were developed by the scientist for curing the patient those were suffering from Heroine addiction.
